KUDOSASE Marks 2005 Achievements

LEESBURG, VA - As 2005 comes to a close, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) has reached several milestones, including:

* myASE Program - ASE announced that membership in this program is more than 70,000 in less than two years. Launched in March 2004, it can be found in the Service Professionals section on the ASE Web site.(ase.com)

Currently, certification status, test history and updates of personal information (mailing address, telephone number, etc.) can be viewed in this area, using secure software to maintain privacy. In the near future, ASE announced, members will be able to customize their page with respect to personal experience and preferences. ASE President Ronald H. Weiner added that unlike some other Web sites, "There are no registration or subscription fees."

ASE is redesigning the Blue Seal sign that shops can display in their windows. This is one proposed design.

To qualify as a BSRP shop, at least 75 percent of repair and service professionals of a shop must be ASE certified in each area of service provided. Shops must also submit to an annual review process to maintain BSRP status.

ASE is in the process of creating new signage and validation stickers to better identify qualifying shops to the public. In addition, the ASE Web site is being enhanced to facilitate consumer searches, with hotlinks to each shop's personal Web site. Finally, a BSRP flyer is being made available, containing the Code of Ethics that all BSRP shops agree to follow, which can be attached to a customer's repair order. The flyer will have room for a technician's signature and shop imprint.

* Automotive Service Professionals Week- ASE Vice President of Communications Tony Molla announced that June 12 through 18, 2006 has been chosen to honor the skill, commitment and dedication of automotive, truck and collision technicians, as well as parts specialists and other support professionals.

ASE Vice President for Industry Relations Trish Serratore is again pushing to have all 50 states provide nationwide recognition for automotive professionals.

* New NATEF President - On Nov. 2, ASE and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) announced that William A. Kersten was succeeding Ronald H. Weiner as president. Wiener has been named to serve as CEO of NATEF, and will continue to serve as ASE president.
