Ford approves 3M rivet-bonding adhesives, repair tools for F-150
"In order to make sure that repairs to the new truck were straight-forward and reasonable for mainstream collision repair facilities, Ford engineers worked with collision industry leaders, including 3M, during the development of the Workshop Manual,” said Jason Scharton, 3M’s Business Development Manager for OEM/Collision Repair.
For nearly 20 years, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive has been the performance standard for exterior panel adhesives, and its selection for the next generation Ford F150 shows that experience matters. A two-part epoxy adhesive which provides extended work-time but can be rapidly cured with heat, 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive has excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plastic and metal substrates and can be used to bond door skins, roof skins, quarter panels and box sides. It is available in 200 mL, 50 mL and 400 mL cartridges.
Additionally, Ford has approved the use of the 3M File Belt Sander for grinding out self-piercing rivets, removing seam sealer and preparing surfaces for rivet-bonded repairs. 3M worked closely with Ford in the development of Ford’s Collision Repair Workshop Manual and the 3M File Belt Sander is included in Ford’s Aluminum Use Hand Tool Kit. The 3M File Belt Sander is available with 3M™ Green Corps™ Abrasive File Belts and Scotch-Brite™ Durable Flex Belts in a variety of sizes and grits.
These solutions, and others, for rivet-bonded repairs are available at participating distributors. For complete details, call 1.877.MMM.CARS, contact your 3M Distributor or 3M Sales Representative, or visit the website at www.3MCollision.com.
