A unique Chinese character interface and support for local Chinese vehicles differentiates the DT-500, a new vehicle diagnostic product created by the SPX Corporation, from other diagnostic scan tools. The unit, which is specificallly intended for the Chinese market, will be manufactured in China and is to be sold in the Chinese aftermarket. "This product was developed over the past six months at our global research and development center here in Shanghai," says Chris Kearney, chairmen, president and chief executive officer of SPX. "We anticipate this will be the first of many custom engineered products designed by SPX for the fast growing China automotive market." Two functions differentiate the DT-500 from other diagnostic scan tools. One is the sort function, by which a data stream from DT-500 can be sorted by wave form and locking status. The other is the conflict function which allows you to read details when two or more electronic control units (ECU) cannot read data correctly from the same sensors or actuators. Additional features of the DT-500 include: - A color display with high-definition and high-resolution;
- A USB interface to enable the DT-500 to link to a computer running ScanMate software — a powerful proprietary package which allows further data analysis, monitoring, printing and enables tool updates;
- Support for original vehicle communication and controller area network (CAN) protocols;
- The ability to support new vehicle communications protocols via firmware;
- Fast automatic user friendly software upgrade via the Internet;
- Real-time scan of the vehicle ignition system, sensors and actuators;
- A memory function to automatically store vehicle model selection information;
- Comprehensive HELP functions regarding tool operation and maintenance; and
- A demonstration function which shows new users how to use the tool.
