Citing a breakthrough development in the quest to create useful products from scrap tires, a patent application has been filed for a new system of pavers and patio blocks made from recycled tire crumb rubber. The lines will eventually be marketed as a “green” environmentally correct product that provides a useful purpose for old tires while being durable and easy to assemble.

“The blocks have hidden interlocking members that are strong, and (the interlocking pieces) align the blocks and hold them in place,” explains inventor Ken Glynn, COO of B Green Innovations, a subsidiary of iVoice Technology. “The blocks have extended male interconnectors that fit under and into the female interconnectors of adjacent blocks,” he adds.

Currently under research and development as the patent process moves forward, Glynn says that when production begins the blocks will have a variety of shapes, including square, round, rectangular and herringbone. Several colors will be made available.
