Ohio Technical College is one of five
locations in the country to offer an official 24-week
BMW Service Technician Education Program (STEP).
The BMW STEP program is a manufacturer-
specific training program that allows OTC’s top-performing students to train
on the latest BMW models and advanced technologies.
As part of the program, BMW covers the cost of tuition
in accordance with established terms of employment upon
graduation.
In addition to the BMW STEP course, OTC offers a
specialized 12-week program called “BMW Fast Track” to
provide training on BMW technical systems, body
electronics, new engine technology, engine electronics,
brake systems and chassis dynamics. If students
complete the courses to BMW standards, they will be
awarded BMW certifications. Fast Track students can
then enter the workforce as a BMW level 3 technician or
may also apply for STEP.
“Ohio Technical College began offering this excellent
training program in 1999, and recent graduates are
successfully working for BMW as technicians, body and
paint specialists, shop foremen, service advisors and
managers,” said Paul Dietz, BMW STEP program director,
OTC. “OTC has anywhere from 18-25 BMW vehicles on site
at any given time to be used for student training aids.
Hands-on training is essential in preparing students
for high-level careers at BMW dealerships.”
The college has a direct link to BMW in Germany through
the BMW server called ISIS (Integrated Service
Information Server). This direct access provides the
college with the latest BMW diagnostic and user guide
information as well as the ability to receive quick
feedback on any complicated BMW maintenance issues that
may arise. BMW provides the college with specific BMW
OEM tools and test equipment to use on all BMW makes
and models. By using the same tools as the OEM’s,
students develop added confidence and the additional
knowledge for when they begin working in a BMW
dealership.
