Shell Lubricants and Pep Boys, announced that Pep Boys will use Shell
Lubricants' innovative Ecobox(tm) system for dispensing Pennzoil brand
motor oils, the primary featured motor oil brand in the company's
service bays.
Developed by Shell Lubricants, the Ecobox(tm) system offers an
alternative to traditional plastic packaging for motor oil, and is
designed to improve many operational tasks associated with dispensing
the product, compared to using single-quart bottles. The Ecobox(tm)
carton can reduce storage space in shops, as it is about one-half the
size of the equivalent volume of single-quart cases. Plus, the bag
containing the oil in the Ecobox(tm) carton is designed to help improve
speed and ease of use compared to bottles. The oil is easily dispensed
from a specially engineered valve, and then transferred to the engine
crankcase by a custom-designed Pitcher or an Ecobox(tm) pump
system.
"We believe that using the Ecobox(tm) system will help reduce the time
a vehicle spends in a our service centers, increase technician
productivity and help decrease the time our customers spend waiting for
their vehicle," said Tami Presley-Shull, assistant vice president of
Merchandising at Pep Boys. "The Ecobox(tm) system will also reduce our
cost per quart of oil and help cut down on plastic waste in our
environment."
Using the Ecobox(tm) plastic liner results in 89 percent less plastic
landfill waste than the equivalent 24 single-quart plastic bottles, and
the Ecobox(tm) carton is fully recyclable.
The use of the Ecobox(tm) system by Pep Boys signifies a large-scale
distribution for this innovative system. Pennzoil Platinum® full
synthetic, Pennzoil® conventional and Pennzoil® High Mileage Vehicle®
motor oils will be dispensed using the Ecobox(tm) system.
