Software provider ZoomSafer has announced the launch of a new hands-free service that enables voice-based access to text and e-mail.
The new VoiceMate service audibly alerts the driver when e-mail or text messages are received from prioritized contacts. By touching a single key on his or her phone, the driver can listen to, and accurately respond to, text and e-mail messages using just his or her voice.
This service augments ZoomSafer’s existing hands-free services for smartphone users including:
Auto-replies to incoming e-mails, text messages and unanswered phone calls
Prioritized filtering of incoming calls
One-touch access to voice activated dialing
ZoomSafer + VoiceMate is the only safe driving software to combine policy-based controls with hands-free productivity services.
“Despite the fact that it’s incredibly dangerous and, in many cases, against the law, millions of American motorists still find themselves sending texts and e-mails every day,” says Matt Howard, founder and CEO of ZoomSafer. “VoiceMate is a natural extension to our existing safe driving offerings, and for those who just can’t help themselves, VoiceMate offers a simple, affordable, hands-free and legally-compliant way to stay connected with text and email while driving.”
Another company is offering a solution to texting and driving that works a little differently. Safe Driving Systems, LLC, will demonstrate how to eliminate the dangers of mobile phone calls and texting while driving using Key2SafeDriving™ at the International CTIA Wireless 2010 show in Las Vegas, March 23 through March 25 in the Safe Driving Solutions Pavilion, booth #6074.
Key2SafeDriving is available for general release for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Symbian powered mobile phones. Other operating systems and phones will be available in upcoming versions. Key2SafeDriving uses easy to install handset software and a plug-and-forget Activator that installs in the vehicle without tools, according to the company.
Activated when the car starts, Key2SafeDriving automatically puts the mobile phone into Safe Driving Mode, disabling its ability to send or receive calls or text messages. It monitors, reports and regulates mobile phone activity while driving. Incoming calls go directly to voicemail and incoming text messages are sent an automated reply indicating the recipient is driving and will respond later.
Emergency call functionality is always enabled while the phone is in Safe Driving Mode, allowing the person to place emergency 911 or other pre-determined phone calls.
