The Automotive Communication Council (ACC) has announced the winners of its two scholarships in the annual Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium Scholarship (GAAS) program.

This year's winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Recipients include:

  • Katy Black, Gallatin, Mo. – Black will graduate with a 3.92 grade point average and will be studying advertising and graphic design at Park University. Her father works at Frost Automotive (a CARQUEST store). She is active in many charitable volunteer efforts.
  • Cody Sinclair, Sterling, Ohio – Sinclair, a football team captain, will graduate with a 3.47 grade point average and will be studying media production at Ashland University. His father is a NAPA Auto Parts Store owner. Sinclair would ultimately like a career in advertising in the aftermarket.

The ACC is a professional organization comprised of individuals in the automotive aftermarket specializing in marketing communications. The scholarships were earmarked for students focusing on marketing, public relations, journalism, advertising or a related field within the aftermarket.

"GAAS does a wonderful job to help students pursuing an aftermarket career by providing valuable funds," says ACC president Katie Noga, manager of marketing and motorsports, SKF. "While the vast majority of scholarships are deservedly awarded to future technicians, the ACC membership thought it was important to also attract the best and brightest into the marketing and communications discipline of our industry. As the industry becomes more global, marketing will play a critical role in helping companies differentiate and grow their brands."
