Chicago Pneumatic has signed on as a gold sponsor of the 2008 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition, an annual skills contest for auto service technicians-in-training.
“Chicago Pneumatic’s sponsorship of the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition complements our continuing efforts to support the education and training of the next generation of technicians,” says Paul Humphreys, global communications manager for Chicago Pneumatic Vehicle Service Division. “Supporting programs of this type is critical to assuring that future technicians are educated and enthusiastic about their upcoming careers in this industry.” The Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition was developed to promote the training and certification of qualified auto service technicians in order to enlarge the pool of trained auto repair personnel available to serve the public. This nationwide competition challenges 11th and 12th grade students in secondary schools and colleges (serving local high schools), which offer courses in automotive technology and have at least one full-time or part-time automotive instructor, to prove their knowledge in the field of automotive technology through qualifying exams as well as hands-on diagnostics and repairs. State competitions will be held this spring, with the finals scheduled for June 22-24 in Dearborn, Mich. For more information about the competition, visit www.autoskills.com. As a manufacturer of professional grade tools, Chicago Pneumatic has embraced the responsibility of educating young and aspiring auto service technicians. The company says its educational support spans a variety of organizations, including the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition, the Tomorrow’s Technician School of the Year presented by Chicago Pneumatic, and the daily efforts of the Chicago Pneumatic Turbo Truck team, which travels the country visiting technicians, conducting product demos and teaching tool use and safety.
