A safety recall has been announced for these vehicles to repair the steering gear. The bulletin states the lower pinion bearing ‘may separate’ and cause intermittent loss of power assist when turning left and/or unintended power assist to the right. About 1.5 million vehicles sold in the United States and Canada are involved in the recall, and GM will begin issuing letters to owners this month. Depending on the extent of the damage, GM will replace the bearing or the whole steering rack at no cost, but at this writing there is no mention of reimbursing owners for repairs already done.
back2000-03 Pontiac Grand Prix Stalling, security lamp illumination and DTC P1626, P1629, B2955, B2960, B3022, B3023, B3024 or B3025 indicates a problem with the Theft Deterrent Control Module. The PASS-KEY fuse may also be blown, but the car may still start and run after several attempts. The problem is caused by a chaffed wiring harness in the steering column, which could prevent detection of the fuel enable signal and permanently damage the theft deterrent control module. The bulletin specifies replacing the control module, P/N 10335045, and includes instructions for rerouting the wiring in the steering column. Bulletin 02-08-56-002back1999-2000 Escalade; 1995-99 Silverado/Sierra (old style); 1995-2000 Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe (old style); 1995-2003 Astro/Safari Van and Sonoma; 1995-2003 Blazer, S10; 1995-2001 Envoy, Jimmy; 1995-2001 Bravada ABS activation at low speed may be caused by an increased air gap at the wheel speed sensor. There will be no trouble codes. Rust and debris can build up on the wheel speed sensor mounting surface, causing the air gap to increase and confusing the ABS control unit. The bulletin includes test and repair procedures, but basically if the sensor does not generate at least 350 mV AC, either the air gap is too large or the sensor is faulty. This bulletin has been reissued to include additional vehicles. Bulletin 02-05-006Aback2001-02 Silverado/Sierra with 6.6L diesel or 8.1L gas engine and Allison automatic transmission
A dash-mounted fifth gear lock-out switch is now available to prevent transmission ‘hunting’ when towing or hauling a heavy load. The bulletin includes part numbers and installation instructions. Diesel owners should be advised of the increased engine noise they will hear when staying in fourth gear. Bulletin 02-07-30-051back2001-03 Corvette, Camaro/Firebird, C/K Trucks with V8 engine Engine knocking that sounds like a collapsed lifter may be caused by a cut O-ring in the oil pump. The noise will be noticed when the car (or engine) is brand new and may be heard when the engine is cold, seem to diminish, then return as the engine warms up. The O-ring seal between the oil pump and the pick-up screen may be cut, causing aeration of the oil. The bulletin lists part numbers but no repair instructions. Bulletin 02-06-01-038back1999-2003 Olds Alero, Pontiac Grand Am Power window motors are now available as a separate part and can be installed without removing the regulator assembly. The bulletin includes part numbers for each door.Bulletin 02-08-64-023back2001-03 Chevrolet Tracker Inoperative power door locks or windows may be due to wiring damage. The wiring harness can be pinched or chaffed by the door check link. The bulletin refers to SI Document 162420 for wiring repair and routing instructions.Bulletin 03-08-64-002back2003 Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra, Yukon with 5.3L engine The starter on these vehicles is controlled by the PCM. With the key in the ‘Start’ position, the PCM operates the starter until the engine has started or until the no-start time limit is reached. This is done because vehicles equipped to run on E85 fuel usually require more time to start after an overnight cold soak, and some owners may release the key before the engine starts. The resulting ‘ghost crank’ is normal.Bulletin 03-06-03-001back2001-02 Chevrolet Impala Police/Taxi with 3.8L engine
SES illumination, poor performance and reduced top speed may be caused by a restriction in the catalytic converter. The bulletin instructs replacing the converter and installing a revised brake booster hose with a thermal protection sleeve. The bulletin includes illustrations, instructions and part numbers. Bulletin 03-06-05-002back2000 Cadillac with 4.6L engine MIL illumination with DTC P0101 indicates a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. If the code sets repeatedly even though the MAF sensor is good and there are no driveability concerns, the PCM should be reprogrammed. The bulletin includes programming instructions using the Tech 2 scan tool and a warning that improper programming can cause the PCM to lock up and not accept the program. Bulletin 01-06-04-002Aback2000-02 Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade 2WD Trucks with Traction Control Intermittent Traction Off lamp illumination with DTC C0287 may be caused by electrical interference. The problem is more likely with the windshield wipers turned on. A relay can be installed to isolate the appropriate circuits. The bulletin includes detailed installation instructions and all necessary part numbers.Bulletin 03-05-25-002
