Bobby Alloway Wins SEMA Battle of the Builders with PPG Paint

Nov. 19, 2015—PPG’s Bobby Alloway was announced the winner of the 2015 SEMA Battle of the Builders competition. The award was announced on Nov. 6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The vehicle was on display throughout SEMA at the PPG booth.
Alloway took home the top honor with a PPG-painted 1933 Ford Roadster owned by Larry Olson of Sioux Falls, S.D. The vehicle featured a black finish with contrasting orange flames running down the sides of the body. The finish was created with PPG’s Deltron DBU 9700 Basecoat and DCU 2002 CONCEPT Clearcoat.
Alloway’s entry beat out over 200 car builders and customizers. The 260 custom cars entered were narrowed down to 10 finalists by three judges. The finalists then evaluated the entries and decided among themselves who would take home the top honor.
“It feels so good to win the SEMA Battle of the Builders,” said Alloway. “This is just as great as a Ridler or Great Eight win. I almost didn’t enter because I didn’t think I had a chance with an old hot rod; it doesn’t have all the technology that the other builders’ cars had.”
Alloway uses PPG products exclusively at his shop in Louisville, Tenn., Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop.
