Donors will also receive "Sunshines," personalized notes that will be prominently displayed in the respective stores’ showrooms to recognize the contribution.

Proceeds benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation to help fund research that supports children battling cancer.

"According to the National Institutes of Health, cancer is the No. 1 disease killer of children," says Stu Watterson, Tires Plus’ president and CEO. "It is the second-leading cause of death for children between the ages of five and 14, exceeded only by accidents," he notes.

"In addition," Watterson points out, "three out of five surviving pediatric patients will develop chronic health problems because treatments are so harsh. Research to help prevent this horrible disease is not well-funded, and that’s why Tires Plus and Wheel Works are proud to support this worthy cause."

More than 160,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is striving to "fast track a cure" through a research initiative called The Sunshine Project. The effort has assembled doctors and researchers from the nation’s leading hospitals.

"As a result, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation has launched two clinical trials at 10 hospitals in just three years – an incredibly short time in the medical world," says Watterson.

"At Tires Plus and Wheel Works, our teammates not only care about our customers’ vehicles, but also about the communities that we call home," he adds. "We are committed to the fight against childhood cancer; every donation helps."

Along with the oil change fundraising campaign, the stores are conducting other charitable drives on behalf of cancer research. Both chains are owned by Bridgestone.
