Hunter Engineering joined Bridgestone-Firestone Retail & Commercial Operations (BFRC) business partners in St. Louis to share information about reducing the automotive service industry’s environmental impact. The 12th annual event was hosted by the BFRC-owned Firestone Complete Fleet Care, providers of commercial vehicle maintenance management programs. BFRC, a long-time supporter of environmental efforts, has won the accolades of government agencies and environmental organizations for its actions. Hunter’s contribution to the event included a presentation on the SmartWeight® balancing technology. Standard on all Hunter GSP-series wheel balancers, SmartWeight technology delivers a better ride quality than conventional balancing technology, while using 30 to 40 percent less wheel weight, states the company. As the industry replaces lead wheel weights with more expensive materials, the savings provided by SmartWeight technology can help offset any additional cost. Bridgestone-Firestone was the first major U.S. service operator to commit to the replacement of lead weights with steel, according to the company, which adds Bridgestone-Firestone has reduced overall wheel weight use by 38 percent when using Hunter balancers with the SmartWeight feature.
