Bridgestone Retail Operations recently presented the Meals On
Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) with a $471,000 check
as a result of its in-store campaign to raise money to help
fight senior hunger. In total, the company helped raise more
than $500,000 for Meals On Wheels 2010.
“We are proud of our teammates across the country who played
a key part in helping to combat senior hunger by raising
awareness of this issue,” says Matt Hoskins, division
president.
“Many of our teammates even became MOWAA volunteers and
delivered meals to seniors in their communities,” he points
out.
Company-owned stores nationwide, including Firestone Complete
Auto Care, ExpertTire, Tires Plus and Wheel Works, asked
customers to make a donation of $1 or more to MOWAA’s cause.
Each charitable gift will be used to educate the public on
the issue of senior hunger, fund research and provide grants
for related programs across the nation.
“Our vision is to end senior hunger in America by the year
2020. With the support of a wonderful partner,” says MOWAA
President and CEO Enid Borden, “we will make our vision a
reality and drive away senior hunger.” V
Bridgestone’s partnership with Meals On Wheels began in late
2009 and is focused on increasing awareness and funding, and
providing volunteers for the programs nationwide.
In addition, all of the company-owned stores help MOWAA staff
and volunteers care for their cars. Since nearly all of the
volunteers use their personal vehicles when delivering the
meals, keeping their cars properly maintained helps to ensure
that the food reaches its destination.
