More than $75,000 is being donated by Bridgestone toward Haitian earthquake relief efforts
“All of us have been affected by the heartbreaking images and devastating reports of destruction and chaos coming from Haiti,” says Christine Karbowiak, executive vice president of community and corporate relations. “But it’s also heartwarming to see the outpouring of support from all over the globe,” she observes.
“The global Bridgestone group has a long tradition of lending support in a crisis, and we’ll now join together to help survivors of the tragedy in Haiti,” Karbowiak reports.
The company’s subsidiary in Costa Rica has already pledged $25,000 to Habitat for Humanity International.
A campaign is also underway to raise additional matching funds from employees. The money will go toward building transitional shelters for those left homeless by the quake.
“The Costa Rican people truly sympathize with the tragedy suffered in Haiti, mainly because a year ago we lived through a similar experience with the earthquake of Cinchona,” says division President Oscar Rodriguez.
“We know how painful it is to see your own people losing their homes and even their families,” he adds. “Bridgestone Costa Rica participated actively in relief efforts after our country’s tragedy and wants to do the same in Haiti, a country with so many needs.”
