Les Schwab Tire Centers has opened a new company headquarters in Bend, Ore. More than 100 employees have already relocated to the 123,000-square-foot office facility on the north end of town. The remaining 220 corporate workers will move to the building on Dec. 15.

“The new headquarters office is part of a transition beginning in 2007 to ensure the people, facilities and programs are in place to support our tire centers and their ability to continue providing world class customer service,” says CEO Dick Borgman.

“With our new headquarters, we will continue to attract and retain the talented employees needed to support our retail network of 420 stores and to accommodate future growth,” he adds.

The architecture and design of the new headquarters building “celebrates the company’s Central Oregon heritage and reflects its hardworking values.” Features include solar panels, state of-the-art mechanical, heating and cooling systems along with water and energy conservation technology.

Also, three senior managers with extensive experience in retailing have been hired at the chain, Borgman reports.

John “Jack” Cuniff is the new chief financial officer. He was formerly CFO and chief operating officer at Adidas America.

Dale Thompson has joined Schwab as chief marketing officer with more than two decades of experience in marketing and brand management for several global companies, including Kellogg’s, Mrs. Fields, Campbell Soup and General Mills.

Ken Edwards is the new vice president of supply chain management. He comes from the Starbucks Coffee Co., where he held a similar position with the firm’s North American operations division.

Schwab was established in 1952 when the late Les Schwab – who died last year at age 89 -- bought a small OK Rubber Welders tire store in Prineville, Ore., where the company now has a 2 million-square-foot distribution center. The company has more than 7,700 employees in 420 locations throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, California, Nevada, Alaska and Utah.

“Our success has been made possible by our wonderful customers and by valuing the unique contributions and hard work of our employees,” according to Borgman. “We are proud to feature neat clean stores, supermarket selection, sudden service, convenient credit and warranties in writing.”
