John Cavanaugh has been promoted to vice president of the Goodyear’s North American off-highway tire division. He succeeds Joe Copeland, who became vice president of Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems in North America.

Goodyear’s off-highway unit is responsible for tires used in applications for aviation, racing, motorcycles and off-the-road vehicles such as those used in mining and earth moving.

Cavanaugh, 38, has a broad base of experience both inside and outside Goodyear, according to Richard J. Kramer, president of Goodyear North American Tire. Cavanaugh came to the company in July 2003 as director of financial strategy and served in that role for seven months before being named assistant treasurer. In December 2006, he became financial director of the off-highway business. He increased his experience in the unit by serving as director of racing operations from June 2007 through January of this year. Since then, Cavanaugh was financial director of the company’s North American commercial tire systems.

Prior to joining Goodyear, Cavanaugh worked in various leadership capacities at Visteon Corp. and Kmart Corp. He also spent more than four years as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Cavanaugh earned his undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Notre Dame (1992 and 1998) and is a chartered financial analyst. He lives in Copley, Ohio, with his wife, Dawn, and two children.
