How 3M Precision-Shaped Grain Technology helps Reduce Technician Downtime

In an industry that always has its hands full, auto collision technicians need products that help increase the speed and quality of their workflow. With the assistance of 3MTM CubitronTM II HookitTM Clean Sanding Abrasives 737U — and its considerably high-quality traits — technicians can do just that.

3M Precision-Shaped Grain

One of the ways the 3M™ CubitronTM II HookitTM Clean Sanding Abrasives 737U increase production quality is by utilizing 3MTM Precision-Shaped Grain (PSG) technology.

PSG is engineered so that as it wears, it continuously fractures to form triangular shaped points and edges that will cut through metal and wear evenly.

“PSG helps keep the abrasive running cooler, therefore lasting longer, because of the way the grain slices vs. plowing (less smooth movement where the edges are jagged vs. PSG where it’s smooth),” Daniel Rodriguez, the global abrasives portfolio marketer at 3M, said.

Additionally, the speed of cut and longevity that PSG allows, helps make it possible for technicians to move through repair procedures faster by avoiding changeouts/changeovers.

An Innovative Multi-Hole Pattern

The multi-hole pattern of the 3MTM CubitronTM II HookitTM Clean Sanding Abrasives 737U helps reduce technician rework by improving dust extraction.

“The higher number of points for entry in the Abrasive allows for a greater percentage of dust extraction than a 6-hole product,” Rodriguez said. “The 3MTM Clean Sanding multi-hole abrasive pattern varies in number of holes on a disc dependent on size, so, the more hole orentry points on a disc means better dust extraction.”

The better the dust extraction, the less amount of time technicians may need to perform tasks for clean-up or rework in paint jobs due to dust.

Quick and Easy Disc Changes

The hook-and-loop style — or HookitTM — of the disc allows for a simple, efficient, and secure attachment system.

“The soft side of a 3M™ Hookit™ Abrasive is covered with loops while the opposing surface of the back-up pad has J-shaped hooks,” Rodriguez said. “When pressed together the two cling together and it helps secure the abrasive even in rugged applications. They separate cleanly and easily and 3M™ Hookit™ Abrasives can be re-used for the extent of their life.”This style makes it easy for discs to be removed, letting technicians reuse the disc again and again.

Whether you sand with 3M™ Cubitron™ II Hookit™ Abrasive discs or sheets you can expect that the Precision-Shaped Grain will cut at least 30% faster and last at least 30% longer than other traditional ceramic abrasives.
