Dec. 11, 2017—Lamborghini's Urus SUV, which is being marketed as the world's fastest SUV, utilizes a blend of aluminum and steel in its body.
The vehicle weighs less than 5,000 pounds, due in part to the fact that Lamborghini designers focused on weight reduction throughout the vehicle’s chassis.
The end result is an SUV that was designed to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, according to a company press release.
The new vehicle model features frameless windows, a front axle that has an aluminum subframe, a rear axle that has an aluminum and steel hybrid construction cell, and uncommonly strong brakes, according to a CNN report.
Finally, the Urus, which will cost around $200,000, also features Level 2 autonomy, according to the OEM.
Recently introduced in Italy, the vehicle will feature a 650 horsepower, turbocharged V8 and an eight-speed transmission that’ll allow it to reach speeds of nearly 190 miles per hour.
Lamborghini expects to sell more of the new SUVs than it does for its other models combined, perhaps doubling the automaker’s annual sales, according to CNN. That means that by 2019, the high-end manufacturer is expected to sell as many as 7,000 vehicles for the first year ever.
