Feb. 28, 2018—A collision repair bill amended last week by the Indiana House Insurance Committee passed the Ind. House on Tuesday, 84-12.
An amendment to Senate Bill 164 was passed by the House Insurance Committee on Feb. 21.
Insurance Institute of Indiana and State Farm lobbyist Jon Zarich last week presented an amendment eliminating insurance adherence to estimating systems.
The bill was first sponsored in the House by committee Chairman Rep. Martin Carbaugh, R-Fort Wayne, and Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne. The president of the Indiana Auto Body Association voiced his support for the BIll before the House Insurance Committee on Feb. 21, but now opposes it after the amendment.
The amendment gives the consumer, not the repairer, the responsibility to prove industry standards were as good as the instructions set out by the automakers who built the new technology.
