April 3, 2017—The North Dakota Senate recently passed a bill asking the state’s Department of Transportation to study the issue of data sharing in autonomous vehicles. The bill, North Dakota House Bill 1202, passed 45-0 in the state senate.
The bill demands that the North Dakota Department of Transportation work in concert with autonomous vehicle companies to study the use of vehicles equipped with automated driving systems on highways within the state.
The study must include a review of current laws dealing with licensing, registration, insurance, data ownership and use, and inspection, and how they should apply to cars with automated driving systems, according to a Forum News Service story.
