Tesla has become the subject of an investigation by OSHA amid reports of workplace hazards at its Fremont, Calif., factory.
April 23, 2018—Tesla has become the subject of an investigation by California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health, amid reports of workplace hazards at its Fremont, Calif., factory.
Bloomberg News reported last week that the Center for Investigative Reporting alleged that Tesla made its worker-safety record appear better by not reporting multiple serious injuries.
In a statement last Wednesday, a Tesla spokesperson said the automaker was cooperating with the investigation, adding that the injury rate at the Fremont factory had been significantly reduced in recent years, after Tesla took it over from GM/Toyota. The spokesperson also said that Tesla had never before received a violation for inaccurate or incomplete record-keeping.
Early last week Tesla said it had temporarily halted production of its popular Model 3 in Fremont in an effort to improve its manufacturing system.
Tesla’s shares are down approximately 5.8 percent so far in 2018.
