Multiple OEMs Set to Release Precedent-Setting EVs by 2020

Aug. 7, 2018
OEMs like Volvo, Porsche, and Tesla appear to be close to unveiling rather innovative electric vehicles.

Aug. 7, 2018—Electrek recently took a look at what it deemed to be the most innovative electric vehicles set to hit the market by 2020. And, it appears multiple, soon-to-be-unveiled EVs will feature unprecedented innovation.

Among the innovative models that Electrek highlighted were:

  • Volvo all-electric XC40: The new XC40 compact SUV could be released as early as 2019. Because of its size, it should be released at a lower price than competitive models (the non-electric XC40 starts at $36,000, for a frame of reference). The Volvo EV is expected to have a range of around 250 miles.
  • Porsche Taycan. Formerly known as the Mission E, the Taycan is expected to be the first all-electric passenger car with an 800-volt charging system. The Porsche model, which is expected to be released in 2019, should have a range nearing 300 miles. According to electrek.co, the vehicle will likely cost around $80,000.
  • Tesla Roadster. While the Roadster is expected to come with a roughly $200,000 price tag, it could feature a stunning amount of speed. The so-called electric supercar could become the first production car to produce a 0-60 mph time under 2 seconds. It should also boast a top speed of around 250 mph. The vehicle’s range could also reach an unprecedented 620 miles on a single charge.
