Toyota Invests $22M in Autonomous R&D at University of Michigan

Aug. 12, 2016—Toyota announced Thursday that it is investing $22 million in a partnership with the University of Michigan to research and develop autonomous and robotic technology, according to a report from Automotive News.

“We look forward to collaborating with U-M’s research faculty and students to develop new intelligent technologies,” Toyota Research Institute CEO Gill Pratt said. 

The research will focus on the improvement of driving safety and autonomous driving, among other projects. In a statement, Toyota said it chose to work with the University of Michigan because of an already established automotive technology research base.
