MACS announces new leadership

Jan. 31, 2022
After 42 years at the association, Elvis Hoffpauir is stepping down at the end of January from his duties as MACS president and COO, to be replaced by industry veteran Peter Coll.

Elvis L. Hoffpauir is stepping down at the end of January from his duties as MACS president and chief operating officer to enjoy retirement. Following a 42-year distinguished career at the Mobile Air Climate Systems Association (MACS), Hoffpauir will transition to past president and association advisor.

“It has been an honor to serve the MACS membership for so many years and a privilege to watch both the association and the industry not only grow but thrive. I look forward to watching MACS continue to maintain a leadership voice in the mobile climate industry,” Hoffpauir said.

Peter J. Coll will join MACS as the new president and chief operating officer. Coll was previously employed by Neutronics Inc. for 25 years, serving within several divisions. At the time of his departure in January 2021, he was vice president of sales, where his responsibilities included financial profit and loss, business development, education, and industry leadership for both domestic and international business.

Coll maintains an active relationship with several government regulatory agencies, as well as automotive original equipment manufacturers, refrigerant producers and service equipment providers providing expertise on refrigerant contamination, counterfeiting, identification, and service procedures.

Coll is a past member of both the MACS and MAC Partners boards of directors.  He currently serves as vice chair of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Interior Climate Control Service Committee, the SAE TMR CRP Steering committee and is a member of the SAE G21R Counterfeit Materials committee.  In addition to his service to SAE, he has acted as a subject matter expert consultant to U.S. government agencies, foreign government agencies and the United Nations.

“I am pleased to join the Mobile Air Climate Systems Association to continue its long tradition of serving the manufacturers, distributors and service providers of the mobile A/C sector," Coll said. "Together, with the staff and board of directors, I look forward to expanding our training and industry support of the climate systems needs in the rapidly changing passenger and commercial vehicle markets."

“The MACS board congratulates Elvis on his retirement after the many years of steady leadership he provided to the members of MACS and we welcome Peter to his new role. Peter will inherit a veteran staff of professionals that should make this transition seamless for our membership,” said Andy Fiffick, MACS chairman and chief executive officer.

Since 1981, the MACS has been the advocate for service and repair owners, distributors, manufacturers, and educators making their living in the total vehicle climate and thermal management industry.

MACS empowers members to grow their businesses and delivers tangible member benefits through industry advocacy with government regulators and by providing accurate, unbiased training information, training products, training curriculum, and money-saving affinity member services. MACS has assisted more than 1.2 million technicians to comply with the 1990 Clean Air Act requirements for certification in refrigerant recovery and recycling to protect the environment.
