Exel, its partners at Chrysler’s Mopar® brand, and other dedicated transportation providers, have earned the prestigious Chrysler Environmental Leadership Award for extraordinary innovation and dedication to reducing the environmental impact of the company's products and facilities. Mopar is Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer care brand.

The collaborative project, which redesigned the dedicated delivery service (DDS) to dealers, set goals to reduce environmental impact, cut costs and improve service. The award came in the Product Related Environmental Protection category for achievement of significant results in each area, including:

–        Eliminating approximately 7,300 metric tons of CO2 by eliminating more than 4.6 million miles in delivery routes to save more than 722,000 gallons of fuel;
–        Reducing costs by a total of $8.1 million in logistics, fuel and services; and
–        Improving service, including on-time deliveries, order response times and reduced complexity.

Exel, which operates seven of 12 Mopar DDS networks across the country, played an important role in achieving the project’s goals by redesigning delivery routes to reduce miles driven, thus saving fuel and slashing greenhouse emissions.

“We have worked with Chrysler for the past 20 years to provide dedicated delivery solutions, and we are proud to be part of the Mopar team that’s earned this recognition,” says Brian Deffet, Exel’s vice president of operations for the automotive industry. “We are always looking for ways to proactively optimize our networks, respond to market changes and advance the sustainability of the supply chain.”

According to Chrysler, the Environmental Leadership Awards program fosters pro-environmental thinking in all levels and functions of the company's operations and is a tool for sharing best practices between employees and in the supplier network. A total of 29 projects worldwide were submitted in 2009 and were judged on the basis of their contribution to environmental stewardship, cost savings and innovation. In addition to the Product Related Environmental Protection category, teams were also awarded Environmental Leadership Awards in the areas of Production Related Environmental Protection, Extraordinary Efforts for the Environment and Dealership Environmental Initiatives.
