ACA employer mandate delayed until 2015

Jan. 1, 2020
The Affordable Care Act requirement that large employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees must offer health insurance to full time employees has been delayed until Jan. 1, 2015.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirement that large employers (businesses with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees) must offer health insurance to full time employees beginning Jan. 1, 2014, or face a fine, has been delayed one year until Jan. 1, 2015.

The announcement by the White House does not delay the provision requiring most Americans to have health insurance coverage by Jan. 1, 2014, nor does it delay rules that pertain to companies that already offer employee health insurance, according to the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).

Finally, the requirement that states have health insurance exchanges in place by October 2013 also remains in place.

This delay will enable companies who do not currently offer insurance additional time to understand how full-time employees are determined under ACA.

AAIA will be presenting a series of webinars on this topic, beginning on Sept. 18. Registration will be available soon.
